Analysis of NME Magazine!

This is an issue of NME magazine i will be analyzing. NME is a very famous if not the most famous music magazine roaming the streets of england and other countries for decades.
it contains a masthead which in media terminology means logo, this is very bold so that the audience can see what brand the magazine is so they can recognise it straight away. The NME logo is the boldest piece of text on the cover for obvious reasons to show the reader what the brand of the magazine is. There is the red writing, which is then outlined with white and the again with black. These are the three colours used throughout the rest of the cover. But because this magazine is a christmas edition there is snow on top of the logo to represent it being christmas.
There is also a picture of the main feature of the magazine, this is Simon Cowell and this tells the audience the main feature that is going to be inside the magazine. The masthead is in the top left hand corner and is the same colour like it is on every issue for many decades, this makes it easy to recognise and people who want to buy this particular magazine can easily tell this is NME. This is so recognisable as NME that the picture of Simon Cowell is not covering part of the masthead which in most NME magazines normally overshadow the logo.
The font used for the NME masthead is used throughout the front cover and inside the magazine, this is another way to make it recognisable to people looking to purchase it. Also the colour scheme's they use for this magazine represents the house style of NME which is red white and black which has been used for many years.
For the layout down the left hand side are more stories that are inside the magazine, the headline of the story is in big white letters and a small tag line about the story is underneath in a smaller white font. Also down the left hand side there is four pugs dotted around the left hand side as they explain inside what artists are going to be inside. These each say band names such as MGMT and Paramore and many others. These pugs all have the house style colours inside with them using the three house style colours of red white and black. The main reason to why the writing is layed out to the left hand side is that it would then not block out the main image of the front cover which is Simon Cowells face. In the bottom right corner there is the barcode this is placed far away from all the writing and the image so that it doesnt cut across or interfere with the front cover of the magazine. Across the top their is a banner which says "Massive Christmas Double Issue" this is too show the reader that whats inside normally, but because its christmas they show that inside there is going to be double the normal size in this magazine.
